Native American Jewelry Repair – Inlay

I have a Zuni lapis inlay ring that has the dark blue stones damaged. I would like to have the damaged stones replaced with either onyx, or a combination of multi colored stones… please advise.

Unless this is a very collectible, valuable or sentimental ring, it is usually cost prohibitive to have broken stones replaced in inlay pieces by a Zuni artist.  In our experience, it would cost 2-3 times the price of a new ring and the end result might not be what you had hoped for.

Very few of the Native American artists we deal with do repairs and those that do only like to work on their own pieces, and even then, repairs are a low priority – they are more interested in producing a new piece. That is perhaps why the repairs are costly and take long.
Therefore, if you can find a local, commercial jeweler to do the stone replacements you want that might be the best route.
