There are 3 main trim colors on original AWL Dooney & Bourke handbags.

  • British Tan trim is designated by R in front of the bag’s number.

  • This includes British Tan with British Tan trim.

  • Burnt Cedar trim is designated by B in front of the bag’s number.

  • Matching trim (only available with black, navy and red bags) is designated by P in front of the bag’s number.

  • Exceptions to the above include the Plaza Bag, the Zipalongs, and Kilties which came in all nineteen colors with tan trim AND all nineteen colors with matching trim.

  1. Hi! I just bought a vintage (I think) canvas Dooney. I believe it’s the Cabriolet tote. It has the red, white and blue tag sewn in and a serial number on the back beginning with an”A”. I am just trying to figure out if it’s authentic. It definitely has leather trim and is similar to the current Cabriolet totes on the Dooney site as far as characteristics. What does the “A” stand for and what other things should I look for to tell if its real?
